How do I power a Zephyr®?

Find the best power option for your installation

The Zephyr® has multiple power options depending on your requirements. These are: • Indoor mains power (via an IP2X rated power cable with 3-pin plug) • Outdoor mains power (via an IP67 rated power supply with commando socket) • Solar power (via a 50W panel) • Off-grid high-capacity external battery box • Internal battery, chargeable by any of the above

Outdoor Mains Power

There must be access to a 110-240v AC within 1m of where the Zephyr is mounted. As standard, this is a versatile 230V blue commando connector, but it is also available as a 110V yellow commando plug and with an extension to a 3-pin plug on request.

Indoor Mains Power

All Zephyrs are supplied with an IP rated (IP2X) mains cable to provide power indoors via a mains connection. This power supply uses a standard 3-pin UK plug.

Solar Panel

The location must have a clear line-of-sight facing South with no overshadowing. There must be room above the Zephyr to mount the solar panel at least 15cm above the top of the Zephyr.

Further information on how to install your solar panel can be found within Installation Guide which can be found on the Product Resource page of the website.

Internal Battery Power

The Zephyr can be powered using its internal battery, following initial charging. This is ideal for mobile use if you wish to visualise the pollutant throughout a journey and/or specific route. It should be noted that the battery will last between one to seven days (dependent on sampling mode and installed cartridge types) on its internal battery prior to recharging.

Off-grid External Battery

For deployments requiring consistent power supply but without access to mains or consistent solar, EarthSense can provide an off-grid deployable battery box, chargeable by solar panel. This solution can keep a Zephyr powered for more than a month with no external power input.

External Battery Cable

EarthSense understands that some users may already have a range of battery options. Therefore, we offer an external battery cable, allowing the Zephyr® to be connected to any 12V DC battery.  The EarthSense sales team can advise the required battery size for your application and project requirements.
